Through my analysis of music magazines i have come to realise some typical conventions of a music magazine. I believe these to be:
- The use of colour within the masthead that appeals and can be connoted with both a male and female audience
- That the main image, can either be aimed directly at one audience but appeal to the other through another aspect. (E.g if Leona Lewis was placed on the cover of a magazine, it would be assumed that it was aimed a female audeince, as her music is aimed at that audeince. However this assumption can be changed through a variety of things whether thats the clothes she is wearing, to the way in which she is posed)
- The magazines seem to cover a few genres of music, rather than focus on just one in particular, which i think has been done to open its target audience
Through my target audience research i have found that my audience are more attracted to music magazines that:
- display a variety of bold colours
- display a variety of pieces of text in different fonts and sizes
- have key words printed in bold in which to make surrounding articles clear as to what they are regarding
Therefore i plan to meet the following conventions by creating a magazine that consists of the typical connventions of a music magazine but in challenges it in aspects in which to attempt to improve and change it for the better. I plan to create a magazine that meets the wants and needs of the most wanted aspects, like the contents of the magazine, the choice of colours and the general layout of every page
I aim to look at the results from the questionnaire and adapt them to the decisions i make regarding the magazine, as this should attract my target audience better, as the questionnaire was taken by people within the age bracket. I have to meet my target audience through a variety of ways, one by meeting the answers of the questionnaire, and second through creating a magazine that appeals to people of that age bracket through my choice of fonts, text sizes, colours and the general layout. I also have to consider the language; the language has to reflect the audience and the theme and genre of the magazine, so perhaps including slang and using common phrases rather than formal may help towards this.
