Evaluation Question One

Looking Back Over the Process.

Throughout this entire project, I have had to consider every single decision I have made.

I have been learning as I have been creating and therefore I have had to make sure I have been reflecting the knowledge i have consitently been gaining.

I’ve learnt a lot about all the typical and traditional conventions that would be found upon a magazine, and I had to consider massively why these conventions were done, and why they were so successful; and then adapt these questions to my own work. I had to think about, how I was meeting the conventions.

For example considering the costume my model was wearing, and how they posed for the image, I thought about text sizes and colours and the general composition and layout of the magazine.

I had to remember to always be reflecting the typical connotations of a music magazine and also the genre of music i was portraying.

The Content of Exiting Products.

My questionnaire and my interview, will, of course, be the main influences upon my decisions that i make regarding my music magazine. This is due to the fact that the questionnaire and the interview have been answered by those involved within my target audience and therefore the answers they provide are they key to making my magazine a much greater success and ultimately appealing to them more.
However i looked at the typical content of a music magazine myself. I did not choose a particualar genre, instead, looked at a variety and tried to find what came up frequently.

A number of the things included were:
- Single and Album Reviews
- Information on Artists/Bands
- Competitions
- Interviews
- Quotes
- Adverts
- Contents Pages
- Upcoming Gigs and Tours
- Polls

These are all things i should think about when considering all of the aspects of my own magazine. I am most likely to be including an interview as the main feature of my double page spread.

My Intentions

Through my analysis of music magazines i have come to realise some typical conventions of a music magazine. I believe these to be:
- The use of colour within the masthead that appeals and can be connoted with both a male and female audience
- That the main image, can either be aimed directly at one audience but appeal to the other through another aspect. (E.g if Leona Lewis was placed on the cover of a magazine, it would be assumed that it was aimed a female audeince, as her music is aimed at that audeince. However this assumption can be changed through a variety of things whether thats the clothes she is wearing, to the way in which she is posed)
- The magazines seem to cover a few genres of music, rather than focus on just one in particular, which i think has been done to open its target audience

Through my target audience research i have found that my audience are more attracted to music magazines that:
- display a variety of bold colours
- display a variety of pieces of text in different fonts and sizes
- have key words printed in bold in which to make surrounding articles clear as to what they are regarding

Therefore i plan to meet the following conventions by creating a magazine that consists of the typical connventions of a music magazine but in challenges it in aspects in which to attempt to improve and change it for the better. I plan to create a magazine that meets the wants and needs of the most wanted aspects, like the contents of the magazine, the choice of colours and the general layout of every page

I aim to look at the results from the questionnaire and adapt them to the decisions i make regarding the magazine, as this should attract my target audience better, as the questionnaire was taken by people within the age bracket. I have to meet my target audience through a variety of ways, one by meeting the answers of the questionnaire, and second through creating a magazine that appeals to people of that age bracket through my choice of fonts, text sizes, colours and the general layout. I also have to consider the language; the language has to reflect the audience and the theme and genre of the magazine, so perhaps including slang and using common phrases rather than formal may help towards this.

Target Audience

Target Audience-

My target audience is going to be older teenagers. Teenagers aging from around 15- 19. Mostly for those interested in Indie music but also for most over genres of music. I feel this is a good choice of target audience, as I am included in this age range and therefore I feel I will be able to create a more relevant magazine suited to this.
